The Shadwick Biomechanics Laboratory is under the direction of Dr. Robert Shadwick in the Department of The Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego. Located in La Jolla, California, our lab studies marine biomechanics.

The goal of the Shadwick Biomechanics Laboratory is to understand functionality in the marine environment-  functionality as determined by locomotion and energetics, morphology, and biomaterials.  It is our hope that a quantitative understanding of the processes in nature will lead to beneficial applications in industrial applications.

Our lab is located on the 2nd floor of Hubbs Hall and is equipped with facilities for videography, microscopy, materials testing, and biochemistry.  Our collaborators have made Molecular Biology resources in their labs available to us. There is a machine shop nearby (in addition to our in-house collection of tools and equipment) where we can fabricate equipment as needed.
